MOTIVATIONS-
- Betterment of idol industry/ "Extract the pus"
ex. "It was the very picture of a rotting existence, inheriting an old-fashioned, corruption-filled tradition, something that practically begged me to exterminate it from Yumenosaki Academy. It’s no surprise at all that something like that would be eliminated by the changing times." -Eichi to Sena in "Checkmate" re: the unit Chess
ex. "Is that so? You see people a bit too positively, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing…
And that’s exactly why those talentless, mediocre, good-for-nothings, indulged in that genius of yours.
After all, they were provided with a steady supply of the masterpieces you created, just by being in the same unit as you.
They turned you into their convenient prey, and sucked up the sweet nectar you produced.
Well, it wasn’t my problem. But I couldn’t stand watching it, so I might’ve meddled a bit.
The Tenshouin Group is the biggest investor in Yumenosaki Academy, so we can have our way to a certain extent." -Eichi to Leo in "Checkmate"
ex. "I reconstructed this lawless, chaotic world as a chessboard with clear rules.
And I divided the greatest power at Yumenosaki, Chess, into little pieces.
Using the unit system, I casually made it so no one would notice it was our doing.
If one doesn’t become part of a unit, the DreamFes lives they can participate in are limited. I restricted individual live battles, and made it so that it’d be more difficult to do solo work.
Additionally, the official DreamFes lives organized by the student council are reflected in school grades.
If students don’t participate in lives, they’ll be branded as doing badly or failing, and wind up unable to receive various different benefits.
Everyone in Chess who just sat around and enjoyed their lazy pleasures started to panic.
If they spent their days doing nothing, like they have until now, they would lose everything." -Eichi to Tsumugi in "Checkmate"
ex. "They're all idiots. There is a lot of power and influence in committees — enough to give me the shivers.
Committees have their hands in the media, banks... even politics, but they're not taking advantage of that at all.
Like corrupt nobles on the night before a revolution.
Carelessly eating, sleeping, and playing around without even a vague understanding of the value of what they possess."
"I will shoot an arrow of revolution into those idiots who are idling about while toasting with the blood of slaves." -Eichi to Tsumugi in "Magicians Assemble"
ex. "(Because of its everlasting corruption, the entertainment world's evaluation of Yumenosaki Academy had fallen to the ground.)
(The decline of employment rates, the decrease in recruitment, the slander... Everybody held dissatisfaction within their hearts.)
(This current situation was brought upon by the shamelessness of those depraved graduates themselves, because of their own bad behaviour and laziness.)" -Eichi inner monologue in "Magicians Assemble"
- Bitterness/resentment of healthy people
ex. "Fufu. I’ve been in poor health since I was born, so I’ve spent most of my life in the hospital. That’s why I long for the world outside.
I want to bring an end to this life of longing for the blue sky beyond the window. I’m working hard for that purpose. I’ll even make impossible lies, saying I’m fine, I’m healthy.
Because if I don’t, I won’t even be able to breathe in the outside world.
I would just be brought back to the hospital, unable to take even a single step forward, unable to enjoy a single thing that everyone else does.
I am just so sick of it… Tsukinaga-kun." -Eichi to Leo in "Checkmate"
ex. "But even then, if they truly are cowards who don’t even try to move on their own… then they have no right to live.
They are merely living corpses, who waste their lives and their young, healthy bodies.
Let us pulverize them into fertilizer, and turn them into soil for blooming beautiful flowers." -Eichi to Tsumugi in "Checkmate"
ex. "But I sought to win. I wanted to force into submission all those people who lived so healthily under the sun.
Cursing my own pessimistic, base, selfish, sickly self…
I wanted to make those I was jealous of grovel at my feet while I laughed loudly, all to discover my self-respect and my reason for living." -Eichi to Sena in "Checkmate"
ex. "In a men’s society where physical health and strength are the standards we are measured against, he was looked down upon.
I thought that he’d be frustrated and rebellious, with an inferiority complex simmering under the surface.
That he held the same dreams and desires as me, that he was someone who would come running toward the same goal.
So I thought I understood his feelings. To my embarrassment, I was mistaken." -Eichi to Sena in "Checkmate"
FEARS-
- Death: He seems to fear the oncoming oblivion and how it will halt his plans in nearly equal measure.
ex. "…Won’t you perhaps hurry up, Sena-kun?
We’re already third years. We don’t have much time left, especially me…" -Eichi to Sena in "Checkmate"
ex. "(At this rate, I'm going to lose my life while I'm still a student... before I become an adult. Before I become an idol like I dreamed of.)
(No, I can't die yet... I don't want to die, I don't want to die... I don't want to die.)
(I have to work harder... I need to work harder... It'll be okay, it'll be okay, it'll be okay...)" -Inner monologue in "Magicians Assemble"
- Loss of Progress
ex. "Right then, it’s been decided. I have a few reservations about it, but let’s consider this the final conclusion.
If we don’t start moving soon, we’ll only invite obstacles to the development of our story…
The hand of the clock continues to move. If we don’t let go of something when it’s in a good position, the train of reality will take off without us.
I’ll no longer simply gaze from afar at the story unfolding outside the hospital room window. Let us begin, Keito: this tale to be woven by you and I." -Eichi to himself in "Checkmate"
ex. "It seems I got too excited about being discharged, and it only backfired on me. Ugh, it’s so frustrating, especially when the real plans are only just starting." -Eichi to Tsumugi in "Checkmate"
ex. "... now that the situation has advanced to this stage, whether I live or die won't be a problem.
I've made the preparations so that the Five Oddballs conquest will be able to go ahead smoothly even in my absence. Besides, even the tragedy of a member dying would put us in an advantageous situation." -Eichi to Tsumugi in "Magicians Assemble"
TRAITS-
- Sociable
ex. Despite just meeting Leo, he is willing to have his servants bring a piano into his hospital room for him to play, and offers to play alongside him because of his expressing annoyance at only getting to use one hand to play. Happens in "Checkmate"
ex. Refers to everyone with their preferred name +"-kun", aside from some smalle exceptions, such as Tsumugi
- Noble/dignified
ex. Use of flowery metaphors and abstract narratives to make himself look better, such as turning fine into 'angels'.
"Rather, I’m an angel. Tsukinaga-kun used to call me that, I believe… Squeezing out the pus, purifying the rot, judging the sinners, bringing the world into a new age -
That was my role, the duty I was born to fulfill.
And in thinking that, I made stupid mistakes, lost my friends, lost my way, and at the height of bewilderment…
I washed myself in blood, dyed my wings black, and fell from the heavens." -Eichi to Sena in "Checkmate"
ex. Trying to keep the truth of the past fine, as well as his weaknesses, from Touri.
ex. Remains polite even when side-talking others, so much so that the only time his polite veneer dropped was when Trickstar decided to drop out of a competition(to be named when I get to that part and remind myself.)
- Duplicitous
ex. In his chess game with Sena, he is told numerous times to be quiet to allow Sena to think, but each time he is told so his dialogue gets longer. It seems to be on purpose, in order to throw Sena off of his game
ex. "Yeah. For as long as you’re useful to me, we’ll aaalways be friends ♪" -Eichi to Tsumugi in "Checkmate"
ex. "If you look at it differently, even the protagonist can be the dirtiest villain. The ones who write stories are the victors, and the survivors…
To avoid being recorded as villains, perhaps we should live long and keep winning." -Eichi to Tsumugi in "Checkmate"
ex. "…Just as I thought, all you ever do is lie, huh.
You’re not even close to winning for sure yet, so what the hell are you even calling Checkmate for…
If I move this piece like this, then I can get out of this dilemma. This match is still far from its end, right?
Using bluffs, cover-ups, lies and schemes to make others think you’re the victor…
By making others forfeit, and surrounding yourself with illusions, you built up your phantom empire." -Sena to Eichi in "Checkmate", which Eichi does not rebuff and in fact agrees with.
ex. "While indoctrinating him with half-truths, I used the student council, created new plans…
And from both on the surface and behind the scenes, I secretly tried to control him." -Eichi to Sena in "Checkmate"
ex. "There's no need for thanks. We're friends, aren't we? Tsumugi ♪
(Although in exchange for helping you out with this, I'll have you teach me some things.)
(Tsumugi has many friends and acquaintances... even within the school, you could call him the leading insider.)
(He has complete knowledge of the situations in Yumenosaki Academy that, because of my absence due to my sickness, even I don't have a grasp on... of the soil otherwise known as "human relationships".)
(If I reel that in from him, it should be easier for me to understand.)
(I truly am grateful... for the thing you call "friends". You can have other people move under the premise of flimsy, ambiguous friendship.)
(And you don't even need a contract to sign.)" -Eichi to Tsumugi(and inner monologue) in "Magicians Assemble"
ex. "(Manipulating information, slowly taking time to lay down the groundwork... I created that kind of premise. That kind of common sense. That kind of composition.)
(I applied it to a lucid story about morality play, about rewarding good and punishing evil. And everybody effortlessly believed it.)
(Just like a dictator from long ago said... the general public really are pigs.)" -Eichi inner monologue in "Magicians Assemble"
- Goal-oriented/Ruthless(manipulative)
ex. "Geniuses shouldn’t be hidden. I want his brilliance to be justly recognized. Stepping stones are better tall and enemies strong.
And if that isn’t the case, my victory won’t have as much value when I eventually slay them.
You should fatten your prey before eating it, Tsumugi." -Eichi to Tsumugi re: Leo in "Checkmate"
ex. Eichi's inner monologue in "Checkmate"(A Solitary Throne-9) about allowing Leo to gain popularity only so that his classmates will resent him in order to bring Chess down.
-"(The only people who can fight, be defeated, and still respect their opponents are shounen manga characters.)
(People usually develop baseless resentment, have twisted prejudices, and try to bring down anyone who caused them embarrassment.)
(No matter how much of a genius Tsukinaga-kun is, how wonderful the songs he creates are…)
(How much hard work you all put into this, or how magnificent of a live you put on…)
(Eventually, none of it will reflect in your results. The more you win, the more you wash yourselves in hatred, the more enemies you’ll make, and the more votes you’ll lose.)"
ex. "There isn't any evidence, but allow me to vaguely answer you just in case: Yumenosaki Academy's biggest financier is the Tenshouin conglomerate, and that goes the same for its sister schools as well.
Spreading our roots, manipulation, and making things go our own way is quite simple." -Eichi to Rei in "Magicians Assemble"
ex. "That is the contract we have signed, and one we've performed perfectly. They are weapons — once the war is over, they will have served their purpose.
I have made every preparation necessary so I could fully use them here.
I don't know what will become of them after the war, and I'm not interested. Right now, all they need to do is unleash their destructive power and burn up according to what I desire." -Eichi to Wataru in "Magicians Assemble"
- Efficient
ex. The chess game with Sena in "Checkmate" in which he wants to stop playing ahead of time when he is assured that he will win, since he'd rather not waste time doing something 'meaningless'.
ex. "Fufu. Whether evil or righteous, the historians of the future will decide that for us. I don’t want my name recorded as some miserable antagonist, so we must win." -Eichi to Tsumugi in "Checkmate"
ex. "Hmm… If that’s the case, maybe there was no need to exert myself coming out here. I can’t afford to spend meaningless time, you know." -Eichi to Leo in "Checkmate"
ex. "Any more problematic behaviour, and it'll hurt fine's reputation. And in the same manner as the other members who left us previously...
I will have to dispose of those two properly after I squeezed them all to the last drop." -Eichi to Tsumugi in "Magicians Assemble"
- Bitter
ex. "I don’t think you can understand. I’m not underestimating your ability, but mutual understanding between humans is just an illusion." -Eichi to Tsumugi in "Checkmate"
ex. "And yet you ended up loving humans and tried to involve yourselves with them, even though you really should've just held your breaths deep within the mountains.
But because you descended upon the human world, you dirtied and weakened yourselves. You are being slaughtered by the parts within all of you that are human." -Eichi to Rei in "Magicians Assemble"
ex. "It's all just a story in some distant, parallel universe. The fact that you feel sympathy and empathy... the fact that you would extend a helping hand to them makes you the abnormal one here." -Eichi to Rei in "Magicians Assemble"
ex. "Your very love for people means that you can't abandon anybody, and you will be crushed to death by your burdens. You will be mangled by love — and you will be poisoned to death by it." -Eichi to Rei in "Magicians Assemble"
ex. Believing Tsumugi was only being Eichi's friend to repay his mother's debt in "Magicians Assemble"
ex. "Touri, why are you following me?
Chasing me to Yumenosaki Academy, clearing fine's harsh admission requirements... why are you here by my side?
You know, fine was suppose to be disbanded after its role was finished.
That's why I made the conditions for joining almost impossibly difficult. But even despite what, why?
You're not aiming for money or influence.
As the scion of the Himemiya family, you possessed those things from the moment you were born.
In fact, if you didn't choose to become an idol... I'm sure you would have stayed in a more much blessed position." -Eichi to Touri in the Epilogue of "Magicians Assemble"
- Guilt, not regret
ex. "Though, I don’t really want to fight him.
It feels wrong, like punching an innocent child who’s grown attached to you.
And besides. According to my predictions, Tsukinaga-kun will continue his activities with great vigor, but…
As each conflict unfolds, he’ll be peppered with wounds, and become deeply resented by the people around him.
Being loved, admired by everyone is an emotional support - flipping that on its head is precisely what makes a revolution.
My method won’t apply to someone who was bathed in hatred from the very beginning.
And also, somehow, I just want to remain normal friends with him… The songs he makes just for me are so lovely." -Eichi to Tsumugi re: Leo in "Checkmate"
ex. "I won’t deny that. If I hadn’t done it, then I would never have won. Also, I just didn’t want to lose, no matter what.
I couldn’t just limit myself to playing fair. I won’t let anyone take that from me… And I do not regret.
I won’t even apologize for it. Whether it was some forcibly shared illusion or what have you, a win is a win. The one who survived until the end and proved to be victorious was me." -Eichi to Sena in "Checkmate"
ex. "It was a war. Those who were deceived are at fault, and those who survived preside as justice.
Of course I felt terrible, but I continued to tell myself that… And I stood atop your remains.
At least this sacrifice wasn’t in vain… All I can do now is assert this." -Eichi to Sena in "Checkmate"
ex. "All humans live within their own episodic memories — there's no difference between fiction and non-fiction.
That's why the victors will always be the ones who control the story.
Being the "author" and "main character" of a story will be able to satisfy their own ego. Perhaps I shall leave the writing to "him" and become a main character myself."
"I was about to whine, which isn't like me at all. I have neither the right to complain nor the qualifications to apologize to the ones I have trampled over.
I should remain solemn to the very end, as the blades of the guillotine come down.
I desired for a revolution accompanied by bloodshed and pain, after all. That is my dream." -Eichi Tsumugi in "Magicians Assemble"
- Self hate???
ex. "Personally, he’s not really the type I get along with, either. We have the same sort of revulsion to each other, so if I look at him wrong, it feels like I’ll be looking right at myself. I can’t stand it." -Eichi to Tsumugi about Hiyori in "Checkmate"
------------ thoughts on family
"They're simply being overprotective, and just don't want anything befalling their precious heir... It's not love, or even concern."
(But since that "thorn in my side" is finally going to kick the bucket... it looks like I'll have more opportunities to move around freely.)
(It's not the best... but it's the second best timing.)
(It seems like you've read the atmosphere in the very end, grandfather. Please, rest in peace.)
(I wish you happiness in the next world. ... I have no intention of dying yet.)
We have fighter aircrafts, at least. It's my mother's hobby.
She believes that she's the reincarnation of Marie Antoinette — letting her handle our fortune is like giving a bomb to a child.

(You can buy sympathy and kindness with money. Those who think you can't buy affection with money just don't know how to use it.)
(With just ten thousand yen, most humans will do what you want them to.)
(Even in hell does money make a difference. As the scion of the Tenshouins, I shall make everybody realize that.)
