WARNINGS: possible suicidal ideation, possible assisted suicide, very light references to violence, references to isolation real or imagined, possible physical violence with swords idk what to tell you
As you come to, you see that you stand on the doorstep to a large palace. You’re also dressed up! The outfit is a little different for everyone, but it’s obvious- this is a maid outfit(or a butler outfit, if you want!), and you are standing in front of your next job.
Looking around, you can see the palace is floating in the air; with the ground below lit up by flickering lights that bounce off of the crystals that have overtaken what resembles the Tokyo-F you are familiar with at night. They seem to sway and jump about more like fireflies than lightbulbs, and they are too far below to really examine closely, but your goal lies ahead of you anyway. The Palace is also encased in gemstone- blues and purples and whites that seem to have some kind of ambient lighting from inside, just bright enough against the darkened sky to show where the seams are so that you may enter the wide, towering double doors looming before you.
---------------
The double doors open easily for you. Too easy, they’re far too large for your strength alone to move, but they move anyway, and you enter the entrance hall. It’s grandiose of course, all white marble interlaced with gold, with many various crystals jutting up from the ground, and one large crystal stalactite hanging from the ceiling, serving as a sort of chandelier. There is a staircase before you, right through the middle of the room, splitting into two ways at the landing. Most of the room is not navigable, due to the crystals jabbing into the air, but there is something that should draw your attention first:
On the landing stand two figures. They both are wearing jester costumes and masks but may be familiar to you; The one in the smiling mask has long hair, braided and tied in a ponytail, the color of moonlight, and the one in the frowning mask has his silvery-pink hair cut shorter, with it longer on his right.
“Welcome to our Illustrious Emperor’s Palace~☆” The smiling simulacrum says from behind his mask, though the sound isn’t muffled in the least.
“Don’t mess anything up”, The frowning one speaks up, also without muffling, though his tone is quite a bit more terse than Wataru’s was.
“Fufufu, what our friend here means is that we’re having a spot of trouble cleaning up, and that is why we’ve brought you here! We’ve managed to get this lovely foyer all cleaned up, but if His Majesty sees his theater or the common area…”
The pink-haired masked stranger finishes the thought. “Just do your job. You were hired for a reason. Go see the Emperor in his throne room once you are done.” There are three accessible doors in this room, two beneath the staircase and one on either side of the split stairs after the landing. A fourth door exists but the crystals cover it completely, and there seems to be no weak point in that mass. “You may get supplies in the broom closet under the stairs, to your left”, the blue-haired one speaks up, motioning with a hand in the… general direction of the door beneath the stairs. “It might help!”
[ dressed in something longer, frillier, and less revealing than one might expect for where he is, tenn takes a moment to take in his surroundings and get his bearings.
.......and, when he's met with the two greeting jesters, he very pointedly ignores one of them, because there's no possible way that he wants to interact with that guy, turning his attention to the smiling jester. ]
[Wow! That's fine, he doesn't want to talk to you either!!!
That said, this does confuse the false Wataru, who looks at Tenn, and then at his companion, and then back at Tenn, then back at his companion, then back to Tenn!]
Oh wow! You look a lot like someone I know! ★~AMAZIIIING!!!~★
[I WONDER WHO.]
You ARE here to clean though! Just look at your lovely outfit!
Hmm! A funny predicament! But I suppose it's up to you in the end! We're doing our job, and you should be doing yours.
[He sounds a little disappointed.]
You were hired to come clean, after all. You could try leaving if you do not want to though, it would be smarter than trying to go through without getting anything cleaned.
[Fake-Wataru seems a little charmed, laughing a little.]
Of course, "Empress"~♪
[The door underneath the stairs is just a supply closet, as you were told! Nothing too wild here, but there are plenty of supplies for cleaning. You can find: -A broom -A bucket -Soap and window cleaner -A hose(you can get water to fill the bucket here) -A vacuum -Feather dusters(very important for a good maid) -Rags and sponges -A leaf blower -A roomba -A step ladder -Whatever other cleaning garbage you can think of that I didn’t list here specifically.
You can take whatever you want! Or nothing at all! I’m not your dad, live your best life. Also will you REALLY get paid???]
[ ...He'll take. The broom. This is stupid! Why is he cleaning in what is implied to be his own palace! He's going to take this broom and hit Eichi with it when he finds him! ]
[ leaving the supply closet, he looks at the ... fake-himself, pressing his lips into a thin line. but-- turns his attention back to the fake-wataru with a sigh! ]
[The mask hides any expression of the fake Tenn, simply scowling his way as the fake Wataru whispers conspiratorially with him before they return their attention to Tenn. The masked Tenn is the one who speaks this time.]
Heh. So you're just going to ignore me? Whatever. You should make yourself useful and clean up the common room.
Eh? You're going to talk to me like that when you've lost your position of Empress, as well? It's a little pathetic how you're letting yourself be a doorman while dressed as a clown, you know. Have you tried applying yourself?
[Oh geez. Wataru's clone looks like he is about to beg his companion to stop, but he isn't going to get it without speaking.]
Big words from someone come here to clean filth. I've lost no position. I'm the right hand, as I am meant to be. And no amount of sharing my face will make you an Empress.
So go scrub the floors and fold the clothes, and maybe if you wish hard enough, your fairy godmother will let you meet the Emperor.
[That's a very odd thing to say, he thinks? But unlike the real Tenn, this one doesn't seem to have ever thought that was a possibility. Wataru's clone interjects, throwing his arms up and standing in front of the fake Tenn.]
Ah! How exciting! I always love to see arguments~ They are so passionate! But perhaps you are right. Should we go check on our Emperor? We can leave our sweet maid to his work.
[ he doesn't say anything else, because he no longer wishes to address this conversation, and heads in the direction of the theatre that he was motioned towards!!! ]
Welcome to the stage! Well, when you walk in here, you are backstage. It is a warm, comfortable place for the most part, despite the thick layer of dust that covers nearly everything. This room is oddly devoid of crystals, instead lit with the yellowing bulbs that surround a small mirror and the blinding overhead lights that flood the stage. The first thing you notice as you look from the side of the stage onto where the ‘performances’ must happen is that there are four mannequins on stage, nude and faceless, with wigs and heights that mark them as members of fine, Eichi’s unit from home.
The one depicting Eichi himself is wearing a crown, and holding a sword, pointed out towards the curtains, and the audience beyond.
The curtains are currently drawn closed. Looking around, you can find a chest and just racks of costumes hidden from the stage, and a number of props. Everything here is clearly made to be safe and also just for show, so none of it is USEFUL in any way other than to set up a set, but it’s all here. There seems to be a set for a sort of comedy play, and a set for a drama.
[ ... This much dust is not healthy at all! There's a lot of work to do, here, he realizes -- what a sack of lazy rich boy bones Eichi is to let things get this way ...
But, first! He gives a small huff, looking at the mannequins. Why are they on stage naked??? This is blasphemy??? ]
Ah, mou ... Have some semblance of shame, would you ...
[ Obviously, for fine's pride, he heads to the costume rack and takes off some stage outfits -- going to the mannequins to cover their shame and dress them. The dust can wait. ]
[The mannequins are absolutely shameless! They stand there defiant on the stage, fine with their nudity, though Tenn is dressing them. At least the curtain is closed.
Anything in particular that he's dressing them in?]
[The sword doesn't really like to come free, and when it is pulled at, Tenn will notice flowering vines that hadn't been there before, wrapped around the hilt of the blade as well as Eichi-mannequin's arm.]
[That... works! The vines are not supernaturally strong or clinging, and the sword comes free easily enough. It is also a real sword, so please take care!
As the sword is freed from Eichi-mannequin's hand, the vines begin to blacken before falling apart, as if they had been burned to ash.]
[ ...he casually sweeps up the ash that's fallen to the ground, because a mess is a mess.
and then he goes back to dressing the mannequins! ...changing the accessories also means taking off the crown that eichi-mannequin is wearing, and with his needy desire to be The Empress he looks left--
[No one seems to come out of anywhere to yell at him about it! If anything, it does suit Tenn more than it suits Eichi's mannequin in the outfit he's currently in!]
[Past the curtain is a small auditorium audience of empty seats. It’s inside the palace after all, so it can’t be as big as the Emperor wishes it was, but it is enough. In the back of the auditorium there is a door. A magnificent door, quite large and covered in gold filigree, but encrusted in organic-looking crystals. It is cold to the touch, whether you actually try to open it or not, as if it leads outdoors into some frozen wasteland. It can be opened, though it is heavy.]
[Through this door is a hallway, similar in style to the foyer- all white marble and gold, encrusted in organic-looking crystals that jut up from the ground and hang precariously from the ceiling.
At the other end of the hallway is another door, and in the middle of the hallway is a large archway, leading to the throne room.]
[ ...The throne room sounds like where he wants to be, doesn't it? He is curious about the door on the other end of the hallway, though, and checks it out first. ]
The door opens up to a room that is a mix of a common area and living room resembling the BARiTONES dorm, all in deep reds with low lighting, with plush furniture and a small bar. There are various rooms for many different people with card readers that bar your entrance; a room for each member of BARiTONES, past and present, and nameplates also include the names of their ‘accessories’, but the most striking thing about this room is that every single piece of furniture bears a plastic covering such as one might see in an older home to preserve their cleanliness.
The bar is stocked with alcohol, though it is all just plain alcohol, and on the side of the bar there is a kiosk similar to the sort you might find to play games in any public bar with a hands on the front of it like a trash can’s. Opening it, you could not fit something the size of a person in there, but the bottom looks dark, as if it extends into a void, and the screen tells you that you can add dorm upgrades here, so long as you give up something for payment, without saying what it is that it requires for payment.
As it is a more lived-in space, it does look the part. Despite the plastic coverings, there are cups laying empty here and there, and a number of the chairs have clothing draped over the back or the arms. On the end tables near the chairs, there also are plates with silverware. Behind the bar is a small sink, if you wanted to wash any dishes!
In the back of the room is a door forward, standing no larger than any of the doors to the rooms but lined in gold.
[ The plastic on the furniture is too clinical, and it leaves a bad taste in his mouth. He's reminded of when they had to do that for Riku's health, and --
... Well, Eichi is healthy, now, isn't he? He doesn't need this anymore. So, Tenn removes it! ]
[When the plastic comes off, it turns into a lotus plant, roots draped over the furniture, tangling with other roots which seem to lead to the rest of the furniture.]
[It does work! These plants are even more frail than the honeysuckle, sitting out of water as they are. Only one comes up at a time though, and so Tenn may need to spend time removing each one, and like the other plant they also fall to ashes and crumble right in Tenn's hands.]
[That is it then! Unless Tenn would like to explore getting upgrades or wants to try to get into one of the rooms here. It really is just some run-of-the-mill cleaning you were tasked with, other than the weird flowers.]
Regardless of which door you passed through in order to get here, you have arrived in a hallway. This is similar to the BARiTONEs dorm once more, with wine-red walls and yellowed wall sconces lighting your way to what could be called the ‘throne room’, though it does not resemble anything like that. Instead, it is a small lounge, with a number of places for seating all around and a piano up on a small stage. How many stages does one need in their palace?
Eichi is seated at the piano, seeming to be warming up, or otherwise trying to write music himself from the way he stops and goes at random intervals, repeating some notes here, changing it up there before he notices you’ve come in.
“.....This is embarrassing. I wasn’t expecting to have an audience.” He honestly does not seem to have been expecting anyone, and fidgets a little in his seat, embarrassed. “I'm so happy to see you, though."
[He leans against Tenn's side, regarding the piano keys for a moment, tapping out a few notes. He stops, thinking on it, as if he can't remember how it goes.]
I hope you will forgive me this lackluster performance, just this once, my Tenn. Ah, maybe something like...
[He doesn't play anything very fast, but he does manage to play something for Tenn.]
I've got to! Think how you would fight with yourself if you were stuck here! Fufufu~
[Tenn may notice that up in the balcony seats, the Tenn and Wataru that make their home in Eichi's heart are hanging around, though they're not making their presence known purposely.]
Besides, I need you out there, so you can help me to get my palace in that world, too.
